New Companion & Snow Days

The Whipplesnatcher

Today we picked up my new companion, Elder Whipple from the ferry port. We also had the opportunity to go to the temple, so that was pretty awesome! Since Elder Murphy was going home we decided to do some shopping at the mall. He may as well spend the rest of his MSF. He ended up buying a signed jersey, which I guess is one way to spend all your money quickly haha. But it’s all good.

Snow Day: Part 1

It was declared as a snow day by mission prez. We got like a solid foot of snow. It was enough that very few people were actually driving. We probably couldn’t leave our apartment with the car even if we wanted to. We ended up doing District Council online again, which is not my favorite. I hope we can meet in person next week, but it’s all good we made it work. Thanks to my dad coming in clutch with a paid Zoom account; we can actually have our full district council time online! We shoveled some snow afterwards and then began our journey to McDonald’s. My companion really wanted some so we made the treterious walk there. Most of the sidewalk was buried in snow, but we pushed through it and made it work. The Sakulsingdusit’s had us over for dinner which was super nice! We had some good discussion about the Book of Mormon with the new Come Follow Me. The Book of Mormon is just so awesome! I’m really going to try to keep the Book of Mormon with me everywhere I go. That was actually one of the invitations at district council and I think that it’s a wonderful thing to do.

Snow Day Part 2: The Snow Day Strikes Back!

Today was declared as another snow day. But that’s okay because even though our physical reach is limited, God’s work knows no bounds. We walked over to the church so I can work on some IT stuff. Right when we got there we met some of the members that are in-charge of food pantry. Since it was cancelled due to the icy roads, they were putting down all of the tables. And we just so happened to get there at the perfect time to help them take down. It was actually really cool, just a small little miracle, especially considering the amount of tables that they had to take down. After that I went in and fixed a few contacts and I took an in-depth look at the imos roster syncing code.

Photos in the Park

Today I was not as successful as I would’ve hoped for. I feel like whenever I street contact my mind goes completely blank and I don’t know what to share. So I’m going to try to put more work into preparing scriptures and questions beforehand. A lot of our day was spent trying to find people in public. We struggled to talk to people at the bus exchange so we drove to some houses and tried to knock on a few doors. We didn’t find too much luck, my companion really wanted to go to a park so we decided to do that instead. Not really the best use of our time since nobody was at the park due to all the snow. But we still had a good time, and got some sweet pics. Hopefully tomorrow we’ll be able to do better missionary work.

Interviews

We had interviews with president today, it was pretty cool! He said he had so much to talk to me about. Which can either be a good thing or a bad thing lol. But no he’s great, he just told me how grateful he is for me and the work that I’m doing. We chat about all the technology stuff and my duties as a district leader. He basically told me if I know of any other Elders that would be able to work on technology stuff, he’ll make us companions. And if I need extra time for the assignment, he said that he can have me work in the office all day. I told him I wanted to balance the assignment with proselyting because I feel like I grow the most from that. But in the end if it’s really necessary I’m willing to do it. He’s just so sweet, we ran into him once again later in the day and he expressed his gratitude for us.

Exchanges with the one and only Elder Evans

I went on exchanges with Elder Evans, it’s been an amazing exchange so far. Despite all of our lessons canceling, we’ve still been having a good time doing missionary work. We went to the general session of stake conference and it was so good! I particularly liked the thoughts that were shared about the temple and creating a spiritual temple-like experience in the home. It was also pretty cool because Elder Evans had Mission Leadership Council tonight, so I got to see what that was like. Elder Evans is one of the most hard working and smartest Elders I know. He sets a wonderful example of leadership. He’s taught me a lot on the exchange. We did a role play on preparing and conducting a baptismal interview, which was a good experience.

Spiritual Thought

“And now, my brethren, I desire that ye shall plant this word in your hearts, and as it beginneth to swell even so nourish it by your faith. And behold, it will become a tree, springing up in you unto everlasting life. And then may God grant unto you that your burdens may be light, through the joy of his Son. And even all this can ye do if ye will. Amen.” -Alma 33:23

Continue reading the Book of Mormon, I know sometimes it feels like it isn’t making a difference in our lives. But I know that as we read each day, we make better choices every day; it changes our very being, helping us become more and more “perfected in Christ.”
