The Coppinhagin Cowboy

Being Bold

Had a pretty good exchange with Elder Orbeck again. I love how bold he is, sometimes I think it’s going to be too much for that person, or they will take it the wrong way; but it ends up being exactly what they need. Here’s an example: We were at the Hopper’s house—the wife is a member, the husband isn’t. She likes to have us over because she’s unable to attend church with her sickness. Her son was just arriving home, and we got talking about him a bit. He’s a member, but it sounded like after covid he stopped going to church. When he arrived in the house Elder Orbeck said that he heard that he used to go to church. He then asked why he doesn’t go to church anymore. Her son didn’t really give much of an answer, he just said he just doesn’t. Elder Orbeck then gave him a Book of Mormon and he said, I’ll give you this book but you’ll have to come back to church to give it back to us. Sister Hopper was quick to jump in and said she’ll buy him a brand new suit if he tries to come to church. He smiled and said okay, but he’s got to get going. He planned on doing some bear hunting after work. Sister Hopper was really impressed and grateful that he was straightforward with him.

Copenhagen Cowboy

At the park today we met this awesome young guy from Denmark. He accepted a Book of Mormon and began to read it. He was a really nice guy and accepted the message. He told us he was from Denmark, and we commented on how good his English was. He was like “really?” And we were like “yeah man.” Then he asked “do I have a strong accent?” We added “a little bit, but not too much.” He then said how he thought he sounded like Arnold Schwarzenegger and he said how he thought that wasn’t very cool. We both were like, “no that’s actually super sweet, the accent’s awesome.” He asked, “you really think so?” And we said that he has a really cool accent. It was quite an awesome interaction. He said he was from Copenhagen and he just moved here. He’s working at a ranch and riding horses and stuff. Pretty legendary! The Copenhagen Cowboy!

YSA Activity

The senior missionaries planned out this big YSA activity. They had this nice hike, with lunch and stuff. And afterwards they headed back to the church for a bunch of activities and dinner. We showed up in the late afternoon, and I’m glad we were able to support them. Sadly they didn’t get as many people to come out as they thought they would. But they still had a good time and the activities went pretty well.

Worldwide Mission

I have to say, British Columbia is a world-wide mission. We are teaching a guy from Ukraine, a guy from Denmark, and a guy from India. I don’t know what more represents the gathering of Israel. Just like Elder Bragg said, “the power from this mission comes from diverse convert baptisms.” Teaching and helping these people come unto Christ is the gateway to bringing the gospel to every nation, kindred, tongue and people. And it begins as these people move to BC for work and school and stuff.
