Pioneer Day Walking
As a whole mission we celebrated Pioneer Day. So basically this meant no cars. We walked everywhere we needed to go. We began our day walking to the park by the church. Not too much came out of it, but we had a church tour coming up so we headed over to it. Unfortunately, we didn’t realize it at this point, but we left the church keys at the apartment. Once we arrived, we discovered that they weren’t in our possession; we didn’t have enough time to walk back to the apartment, grab the keys and walk to the church. Luckily, there was a member casually hanging out in the parking lot that had keys to the building. Which was definitely a miracle. So the tour was a success. We then began our journey back to the apartment. On our way back rain started dumping out of nowhere. We happened to bring our rain jackets which was good, but the rain was so strong that our pants were completely soaked. We took refuge in a nearby Mcdonald’s and got some hot chocolate—which wasn’t that great, but hey we were out of the rain.
Exchanges
Pioneer day threw off our exchange plans with Elder Astle and Elder Young—just because we had to have district council over Zoom. But that’s okay, we met up the next day and had them. We drove up to Hixon—which is the only halfway point between us and Quesnel—and we began our exchanges. Hixon Takeout was the only restaurant in town, so as you might imagine, that’s what we got. It was really good, it definitely cost more, but definitely worth it. So the lady at the window yells out small ice cream, then Elder Astle goes to pick it up and let me tell you, that was no small ice cream. The ice cream was probably 3 times bigger than the cone! It was a mini-skyscraper! It was pretty epic and comical haha. It makes you wonder what their large ice cream may look like. We all got Hixon burgers and those were pretty good, you definitely pay for it, but it’s worth it if you’re in Hixon. Other than that my exchange with Elder Young wasn’t super eventful. Which was unfortunate because I was really excited to teach our friend Parry with Elder Young but he was super busy. So our day consisted of walking around at the park, messaging and calling people, and trying to visit people. We didn’t really see much success from it. But the last guy that we went to visit was home and had a long chat with us. The missionaries have done service for him and his wife in the past. But he was more than willing to chat some more with us. He’s quite the interesting character, we had a crazy conversation ranging from his born again beliefs and their not being a need to attend a church, to aliens, to why we shouldn’t dress nicely, to going back to the old church where people would whip their backs, and to the idea that people need a government that enforces church standards and policies more. Anyways, it was one of those weird interactions, but he took a Book of Mormon so hopefully he reads some of it.
Friends Came to Church this Week!
We never thought the day would come. We’ve given so many church tours, invited people to come to church, people committed to come, but nobody would show up. That was until this week. We had a recent referral come and bring his friend to church. They were so awesome! They don’t have very much background with Christianity, but they saw the church ad on YouTube and wanted to see what it was like. Now I got to say, Sikh people are probably some of the nicest people you will ever meet. They are just so awesome! We saw two Sikh guys at the park the other day and we asked them if they would like to hear a message about God; and they were like yeah man! So we shared a bit with them, they were willing to hear a bit about the Book of Mormon and it was great. We hope that these other two Sikh guys enjoyed the church service. We gave them a Book of Mormon as well, and they were excited to read some of it.
