Baptism by Fire

Back for more MLC

We flew back down to Richmond for MLC again. It feels like we were just there, but that was pretty good. There was a letter that was sent from the First Presidency that President & Sister Gill read to us. As you might of guessed, it’s related to the current political events that occured recently. Basically, just be extra careful now, they remphasized how we shouldn’t be talking about politics or making a political stance, and basically avoiding large gatherings and stuff. Gotta stay safe out there! Funnily enough someone pointed out that we are in Canada, it can’t be that bad… It’s pretty humorous, I don’t think I’ve heard Canadian politics once here, only American haha. We had a scripture study on Alma 30 which was pretty good. It was so similar to a previous conversation we had the day before with a guy at Yummy Slice, it was uncanny. We discussed integrating how religion promotes really high moral values and how to integrate that into society. The guy at Yummy Slice had been to our church a few times and decided it wasn’t right for him, but he recognized us as missionaries. He asked us if we have ever been to Vancouver. Then he went on to talk about how crappy the city is. He talked about all the issues with homeless in the city, and how the government wasn’t really doing anything to take care of it. He talked about how these cities are becoming dumps and it’s spreading all around the world. He then told us that we need to be active in the community and electing “our guys,” more “mormons” into society and stuff. He said if we can do that, then we could solve all of these issues. It was interesting talking to him. And it was even more interesting how this was being touched on in MLC. If you want to hear my take on it— the solution is temples.

Storms are Coming

We got to see some pretty sweet thunder storms. Unfortunately, with the extraordinary amount of heat, and with it being fire season there’s been so many fires in Prince George. Hopefully the rain helps, but the lightning wont. But you know, I won’t pass up a neat opportunity to get some nice pics. It’ll be interesting to see if they evacuate any of the areas in Prince George. It seems highly likely at this point. Apparently there’s about 281 active forest fires in BC.

Attending Five Baptisms

The Sisters that we are ward sharing with had a family that they were teaching get baptized today! They are the Gomez family, and they are awesome! One could assume that they were members already, they are so prepared. So we got to go to that, and that was truly remarkable! It’s really special seeing a family united in making covenants with God. We also got approval from President to go see the baptism of Dave. Elder Snow taught Dave quite a bit while he was in Quesnel, so it was a really special opportunity for him to see Dave again. Dave is just super awesome! Again, just super prepared. His wife who isn’t a member came, and asked him “why did you get baptized again?” To which Dave gave the most on-point response: “Priesthood Authority.” He then said “you should try it, sleep on that.”

Two Talks in a Row

Somehow I’ve been able to get this far in my mission without having to give a talk in a ward. Just last week was my first time having to prepare one while in-field. This week, we’ve been asked to speak in the other ward. Perks of ward sharing! I’m not complaining too much, I do actually quite enjoy putting together talks. So there’s yet another talk on my website. Feel free to check it out if you’d like.
